Graduate Certificates

What is a graduate certificate?

A graduate certificate is a non-degree program for students who already possess a bachelor's degree from a recognized institution and who wish to pursue graduate level studies in business without being formally admitted to a lengthy master's degree program. Graduate certificates are designed for those wishing to intensively focus on one specialized area of business.

All of our graduate certificates comprise 12-18 credit hours of study drawn from existing graduate-level courses in the College of Business. Graduate certificate students sit in the same class as other graduate students, undertake the same exams and assignments, and receive formal grades on official UNLV transcripts.

What areas of business will have a graduate certificate?

We are currently developing graduate certificates in accounting, finance, management information systems (MIS), marketing, management, and new venture management.

When will the first graduate certificate be offered?

We plan to admit our first graduate certificate students in Fall, 2008 or Spring, 2009. Signup for our newsletter on the home page to receive periodic updates on our new programs or email us at bizoutreach@unlv.edu for the latest news.

How do I apply?

Applications for graduate certificates will be processed through the Graduate College in the first instance. Information on the application process will be posted on this site as it becomes available.

What is the tuition price?

Graduate certificate students will pay the same tuition as other UNLV graduate students (click here for a full list of UNLV tuition and fees). The College of Business reserves the right to levy special fees to offset the cost of program administration.

Can I earn credit towards a graduate degree?

Yes. All graduate credits earned in a graduate certificate program may be used towards other UNLV graduate programs, such as the MBA or Master of Accounting programs. Note, however, that you will have to meet the specific entrance requirements to be admitted to a given program.

What are the entry requirements for a graduate certificate?

Generally, a four year degree from an accredited college or university with a GPA of 2.75 or better plus any other special requirements set by individual programs.
